How do I set the EF and RF for my Canon camera

If you’d like to keep photographing with the best Canon EF and EF-S lenses using the Canon EOS R series camera then you’ll need at least one of the four Canon Mount Adapter for EF-EOS R choices. Find out why the reason, and what they do.

The reason why an EF to RF adapter required?
It’s the Canon RF mount has a very short “flange focal length that is that is the space between the flange of mounting (where the lens and camera join) and the sensor of the camera. Actually, it’s just a fraction of the distance for the EOS DSLR.

It is the reason an EF/EFS lens made for an DSLR is unable to create a clear image when viewed on the sensor of the EOS R System camera.

The lens adapter is an extension tube which is used to determine an appropriate distance between rear of the EF/EF-S lens and camera’s sensor. Canon’s adapters maintain the electronic connection between EF/EFS lenses as well as the EOS R series of cameras which allows you to make use of autofocus, as well as other options.

The official Canon EF to RF adapters
Canon currently has four options for adapters to the EF-EOS mount:

The most common (shown on high)
One version with an adjustable control ring that can be customized as similar to those used on RF lenses.
Two distinct ‘drop-in’ filter choices that can be particularly useful for super-telephoto and wide-angle lenses where the front element could not be large enough to fit the filter. A version is equipped with an adjustable neutral density filter. The other comes includes a circular polarising filter. The drop-in filter can be seen clearly and can be utilized in situations where the impact of the filter’s creative effect is not needed.
All of them attach in using the same method by lining between the red index marks on the adapter and the red index mark of the camera. Rotate it clockwise (looking towards cameras from the from the front).

Making use of EF-S lenses mounted on the Mount RF
Canon’s EF-S lenses were designed to work with EOS cameras that use smaller sensor sizes of APS-C. However, they can utilize them with the EOS RF mount using an adapter for EF-EOSR.

Then, you’ll have to line up the white index mark on the lens to the white marking in the adapter. To use EF lenses, you need to line up the marker’s red color.

Automatic crop
The image produced through an EF-S lens won’t take up the full frame of an EOS R series camera’s sensor corner to corner. Therefore, it automatically crops an image in order to fill the smaller image circle the lens.

It will also be enlarged when displayed in the rear and viewfinder to show the 1.6x crop. The resolution are also reduced (from 26MP up to 10.1MP for Large JPEG/RAW).

Certain lenses that aren’t Canon APS-C-compatible don’t necessarily get labelled as EF-S lenses in EOS R series cameras, so the picture it captures isn’t automatically cut. It is possible to manually adjust the 1.6x crop in the ‘Cropping/aspect factor at the top of page 1 in the camera’s red shooting menu.
